Johannesburg the city of Art Galleries and Museums

Johannesburg is the largest city of South Africa. With the population over 3.2 million people the majority of people in Johannesburg are Blacks though around half million Whites residents also live in the city. The Black South Africans residents generally live in Soweto Township, Johannesburg.

With the passage of time, Soweto has become the major tourist destination to take flights to Johannesburg. Tourist interested in the cultural values and history of previous regime in South Africa; must visit the Apartheid Museum. Apartheid museum is quite large and full of artifacts, videos and pictures relating to the South African history so tourist can easily spend their whole day watching the magnificent historical art in the museum. The vivacious sectors of the city centre are Museum of Africa, Market Theater Precinct, and the Newtown. Especially a walk during the day in Newtown shows the vibrant and extensive range of African cultures and traditions. Carlton Center is the tallest building in Johannesburg; the city view from top of the building is breathtaking. Johannesburg has caught a major attention of the art lovers around the world and has convinced them to take Johannesburg flights to visit the outstanding and one of the city’s biggest art galleries known as “Johannesburg Art Gallery”. Entrance in the gallery is free of cost. The biggest gallery of the city is based upon the African Continent and displays local and international work of art relating to African culture and traditions.



 




Cheris De Villiers Gallery is situated at the Lower level, Rose Bank Mall and showcases the art work done by the South African Artists. Excellent collections of military hardware like ME 262 jet Fighters from Second World War are available in South African National Museum of Military history. In this museum tourist can found café and a shop for selling the reproduced and authentic Vintage Military Equipments. The visitors also get to see the South African built G6 self propelled, 155mm Howitzer in the museum. James Hall Museum of Transport is also one of the largest museums in Johannesburg. The entrance in to the James Hall Museum of Transport is free of charge. It displays different kinds of items used for transportation in South Africa. The South African Museum of Rock Art in Johannesburg is also known as Origins Centre. The tourist around the world gets on the cheap flights to Johannesburg to see magnificent multimedia display of origins of the humankind and Rock Art in the origins Centre. The South African museum of Art Rock also encompasses Book shop, Cafeteria and an excellent Curio or Antique shop. The Origins Centre is located on the Yale Road, University of the Witwatersrand, and braamfontein in Johannesburg.
